Lesson 7

Part 2

break

KEY IDEAS

Always drive with both hands on the steering wheel for maximum control.

Slow down gradually for smoother stops, to reduce wear on the brakes, and to save fuel.

To stop, brake early and apply steady pressure to the brake pedal.

Check rearview mirrors and look over your shoulder to check your blind spot before making a lane change.

Use the hand-over-hand steering method when turning.

When changing lanes or turning, use your turn signal to alert other drivers.

When backing, look mainly in the direction that the car is traveling. Also check the position of the front of the car as you back up.

When parking on hills, be sure to turn the wheels so your car does not roll into the street.
